Dec 23, 2015 Words of Grace – Bible Reading in 2016
One of my annual practices is to think through how I will spend time in prayer and Bible reading in the upcoming year. This year, I would like to invite you to join me.
I have used Bible reading plans that take me through the Bible in one year, two years, and three years. I prefer the two-year plan because it keeps me moving through the Bible but not so fast that I either get behind or don’t read slowly enough to take in the message.
In 2016-2017, I plan to use the modified M’Cheyne Bible reading plan. The M’Cheyne plan was originally designed for one year, but it has been modified for two years. This two-year plan will go through the Old Testament once and the New Testament and Psalms twice. D. A. Carson has written For the Love of God, Volume 1 & For the Love of God, Volume 2 as companions to this Bible reading plan.
Another two-year plan has been developed by Stephen Witmer. This plan will take you through the Old and New Testaments once and Psalms and Proverbs four times. This plan is designed to be used with How to Read the Bible Book by Book by Gordon D. Fee & Douglas Stuart.
You may decide to use a one-year or three-year plan for your Bible reading. Either will be great. You can easily find several good plans online or in most study Bibles.
I hope you will join me in personal Bible reading and prayer in 2016. Feel free to share with me if you do, and we will pray for each other.
