New City Catechism 2025

A catechism is a fancy word for a set of questions and answers about Bible doctrines. It is a simple, effective way to teach our children (and adults) the BIG truths of the gospel. Join us in 2025 as we jump into these questions and find out the truth that awaits us!

Week 21: May 26-June 1

Question 21: What sort of Redeemer is needed to bring us back to God? One who is truly human and also truly God.

Isaiah 9:6

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

For the Parent’s Heart:

  • Read and meditate on Mark 4:35-41.
  • How does this story show us Jesus’ humanity and divinity?
  • We often think of the humanity and divinity of Jesus during the Advent/Christmas season. How could you bring a Christmas tradition into your devotions this week to emphasize the need for a redeemer who is both human and divine?

Ask Your Children:

  • Read Mark 4:35-41 out loud together.
  • What do you notice about Jesus in this story?
  • What shows us that He is human?
  • What shows us that He is God?
  • Why is this important for us and the forgiveness of our sins?

Reminders:

  • Be sure to check out the playlists below or in the app for helpful songs that your family can listen to for help memorizing these questions and answers.
  • How can you incorporate this question into your normal daily routine? Post it on a mirror in the bathroom, in the kitchen, or in the car where everyone can see it.
  • Bedtime is a great opportunity to review this question and have discussions about it. If you have trouble remembering, set a reminder on your phone or ask your child to remind you to review this week’s question.
