Words of Grace – Gospel Change

Words of Grace – Gospel Change

The gospel is about God changing us. The gospel change described in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 can be summed up in the phrase, “such you were, but now you are.” Here Paul gives a list of the kinds of people who will not enter the kingdom of God. After the list is given, he says, “and such were some of you.”

Paul then says, “But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified.” Now they are clean, set apart for God’s purposes, forgiven and made right with him. The Corinthian Church was full of people who were changed by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Grace Community Church is too!

Change is a reality of the gospel, and it comes from God. The good news is that God reaches us as we are and then makes us something new. He comes to us where we are and then takes us somewhere else. “Such you were” describes us before gospel grace made the change. “Now you are” describes the change gospel grace makes.

As you prepare for Sunday worship, read this passage from 1 Corinthians. Consider again what you were and what you now are by God’s grace.

Please pray for the Good Friday and Easter services next weekend. Invite someone to come with you. The gospel will be shared. I am praying for gospel grace to extend to more and more people to the glory of God.
