Jan 09, 2013 Reminder Of Christ’s Grace and Love…
I started attending Grace due to the recommendation of my father, who met Scott and members of Grace at a missions retreat in Thailand in the late 90’s. I had just graduated from college, and my parents were then serving as missionaries in Singapore. After attending Grace for about 4 years, I felt led to move to South Asia to do mission work myself. Despite the strong calling I felt to go, it was a very difficult 2 years of my life living alone as a single woman in a Muslim country.
Near the end of my 2 years as a journeyman missionary, Grace led another retreat in that same hotel where my Dad had met Scott all those years before. It was very refreshing to be led in worship by familiar friends, and to get to hear Scott preach. It is fun now to look back and see how God allowed me to meet my future husband on that trip also! In his sermons that week, Scott spoke on Romans 8 about how our present suffering is not worth comparing to God’s glory. One evening as Scott and I were talking, he asked me, “Amy, how is your heart?” I remember being struck by that question. First off, that he would care enough to ask and secondly, I don’t think I really knew how my heart was at that time. I don’t remember my answer, but I do remember thinking about that question over and over again. I realized how God had lavished His grace on me that week and I was reminded how deeply I am truly loved by Christ.
Grace was and continues to be a reminder of Christ’s grace and love to me.
