Words of Grace – What Will Happen in 2013?

“The grass withers, the flower fades…”

The fact that the grass and flowers wither and fade doesn’t mean they are bad, but that their beauty is not forever. Nothing in this life can make the claim of “forever.” Everything changes and we can’t change that.

Let’s face it. We have no way of knowing what changes will happen in 2013. But, we know that in family, finances, jobs, and health, changes will happen. We can no more control the changes of life than we can stop the coming of the seasons.

I hope staring down a year of unknown changes doesn’t unnerve you. It doesn’t have to. Coming to terms with how little we know and how little we control can be a wonderful experience of humility and worship. Since we don’t know or control (humility), it is best to seek the one who does (worship).

“…but the word of our God will stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:8)

What God ordains to happen, what he promises in salvation, and what he commands as wisdom, is true and right and will be accomplished. This doesn’t mean we sit idly by and wait for 2013 to happen to us. It means we jump into to the year in faith, trusting God and his word. It means that in the best, worst, or just average stuff of life we steel ourselves with the words of the prophet, “the word of our God will stand forever.”

In 2013 flowers will fade, but God and his word will remain. So set your heart on the Lord and your mind in his word.
