Dec 26, 2012 Promise of Forgiveness…
Once upon a time there was a middle-aged man (a Christian, even) who was fighting what seemed to be a never-ending battle with sin. He felt great remorse, that God could not forgive him for a multitude of “sins” over the past years. Feeling almost hopeless, he went to bed one night begging for God’s forgiveness.
During the night, a dream placed him at the gates of heaven. Saint Peter greeted him and announced that a film would review his entire life. He went into a panic. “No,” he said, “I will be humiliated when these people see what my life was really like.” Nevertheless, the order was given to roll the film.
At first, he was OK with the early years. But he knew what would follow later. He wanted to run and hide because the truth about his sinfulness over the years was about to be revealed to everyone. Yet to his amazement, in the blink of an eye, the screen suddenly turned blood red for each sin and a powerful voice filled with lovingkindness announced that this sin was covered by the blood of Jesus. There was applause from the audience because they too had been forgiven.
This is a true story about my life when a dream gave me assurance that my sins really were forgiven…covered by the blood of Jesus. This is the good news of the gospel preached at Grace: GRACE (God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense).
