Grace Will Lead Us Home – Words of Grace Blog – May 22, 2026

Last week, I wrote about the many dangers, toils, and snares that we face on our journey toward heaven (you can read it here). This week, I remind us of the great promise that God, by grace, will get us all the way home. Here again is a beautiful verse from Amazing Grace:

Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come.
‘Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home. (1)

Home, according to Acts 14:22, is the kingdom of God. Paul and Barnabas spoke to the new disciples of Jesus saying, “through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.” As Christians we enter the kingdom of God when we confess Jesus Christ as Lord and come under his rule as King. And we will enter the kingdom of God in its final and full state when Christ puts down all the enemies of God and of his people and makes all things new. Christ will then deliver the kingdom to God the Father and receive us to himself where we will always be with him (1 Corinthians 15:24-26, John 14:3). This will be home.

When Paul and Barnabas spoke these words to the disciples, they were first encouraging them not to be surprised or dismayed by tribulations that would come upon them as followers of Jesus. Second, they were giving them hope in the promise that God would, in fact, get them into his kingdom. The hard news (tribulations will be many) came with good news (the kingdom of God awaits).

This word of grace is for all the followers of Jesus in all places and at all times. God will get you and me into his kingdom.

Does the promise of the kingdom of God thrill you? Let’s be honest. Sometimes we would settle for getting through our trials and getting to the beach. So go to the beach, or wherever your place of rest and refreshment is. But don’t settle for that. See how much more God has for those who love and long for him. Let the vision of Christ reigning over a redeemed people in a place of complete yet always expanding glory and joy thrill you now and pull you forward in an energetic pursuit of that kingdom.

Does the promise of the kingdom of God give you hope? Hebrews 11 (read it today) is all about people of faith looking for a homeland which God promised would be theirs. They knew that home was in another country. They knew it was a heavenly home (Hebrews 11:14-16). The assurance that it would be theirs and that God would get them there was the power that pulled them forward. So, they lived by faith. Join the list of those who live with the hope of a promised home.

Are you experiencing dangers, toils, and snares today? Remember that this road leads to life. Let the promise of the kingdom thrill you into faith, hope, and love. God, by grace, will get you home.

Let’s pray for each other this weekend.

-Scott
