Jan 23, 2015 Words of Grace – Shaped by the Cross or the Culture?
Whenever Christians talk about the culture, the conversation can go in one of two directions. We can talk about how bad the culture is and how we should stay as far away from it as possible. Or, we can talk about how much we need to be like the culture in order to be relevant in our representation of Christianity and presentation of the gospel.
This week in 1 Corinthians, we are going to hear the Apostle Paul call the church to be shaped by the message of the cross of Christ and not by the culture’s message of power and wisdom. There is no mention of cultural disengagement or isolation. There is a clear call to embrace the power and wisdom of God in the cross of Christ. By doing so, we will have a true and saving message for the culture in which we live.
Take some time this weekend to read 1 Corinthians 1 and pray for our Sunday gathering at Grace.
I hope you are being encouraged in your praying this week by the 15 Days of Prayer emails that are based on passages from 1 Corinthians. If you are not receiving these emails, please email Sondra Lantzer to be added to the prayer email list.
