Churches Bring Glory to God
Here’s the question. Why did God put Grace Community Church in Nashville? Here’s the answer. “To Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever” (Ephesians 3:21).
Mark Dever and the team at 9 Marks Ministry say, “God established the church as a display of His glory amidst a world of human sin and suffering”. This statement adequately summarizes our aim at Grace Community Church. We desire to be one local congregation that reflects God’s glory in a variety of ways.
We are here to be like a mirror reflecting the bright light of the sun seen from miles away, signaling a power infinitely greater than itself. The church, our church, is to reflect the brightness of God’s perfections, grace, mercy, and way of salvation. He is to be seen in us by the people of our community. When people do see us, they are to think of the One infinitely greater than us. We are glorifying God when we help people say, “What a great God.”
How can we glorify God? Over the next several weeks at Grace, we want to answer that question. The Sunday sermon series will be “While We Wait: What The Church Is To Do Until Jesus Returns” from Acts 1-2. Along with the sermon series, I plan to write several Words of Grace articles related to why God put our church in Nashville.
I hope that spending several weeks considering such big and overarching questions will sharpen our vision, stretch our faith, and energize our work as a church.
