Jun 02, 2023 Summer Prayers – Words of Grace – June 2, 2023
As the vacation season begins for many people, a new ministry season kicks off for Grace Community Church. This is a great time to call ourselves to prayer for the summer opportunities we have for evangelism, discipleship, and care for one another.
1 Peter 4:7 says, “The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.”
But wait, it’s summertime, not the end of time. Isn’t it time to party, not pray? Let’s think about this.
In the next two months, several hundred children and adults will be on our campus for a week of Vacation Bible School, children and teenagers will attend camps where they will hear the gospel and study the Bible, members of Grace will travel for mission and ministry purposes, we will host a training for foster care and adoption, numerous Bible studies and small groups will be held, and we will conclude 1 and 2 Peter by the end of July. There will also be personal contacts, conversations, and service among our congregation.
Every one of these opportunities involves people who need to know and grow in Christ.
As for what time it is, we are in the last days. The “last days” refers to the final age before the last event of redemptive history, which is the return of Christ. When Christ returns, the living and the dead will be judged. That’s what makes this a time for self-control and sobriety of mind for the sake of prayer. We are praying for the work of God in all we do, in every season, until Christ returns, for the salvation of people and the glory of Christ.
Every season is an opportunity for the word of the Lord to change a life.
So, join me in prayer this summer. Here are three ways to pray for God’s work among us at Grace.
First, build time into your personal schedule to pray for the events of the summer and the people involved.
Second, whenever you gather with a group from Grace, take a moment for prayer. Together, pray for whatever is happening in the life of our church on that day.
Third, plan to pray with us every Wednesday night in July. We will hold a prayer gathering in the Chapel that will include a short teaching, some singing, and then prayer.
Summer days are great days to pray. Let’s start this weekend.
