Jun 05, 2026 Together in Galatians – Words of Grace Blog – June 5, 2026
The Bible was written as a communal book. From Deuteronomy’s “Hear, O Israel…”, to Revelation’s messages to the churches, we are reminded that the Bible was originally read and heard in the setting of God’s gathered people.
This summer at Grace Community Church we have the opportunity to hear what the Spirit is saying to us by reading and hearing together from the Letter to the Galatians.
We may think that the only reason the Bible was read in corporate settings in ancient days is because people did not have access to copies of Scripture. Pre-printing press and pre-internet days meant many people relied on others to deliver the word of God to them.
But could it be that the Holy Spirit has his reasons for giving the Bible to the church, and for using the various methods of communication among a gathered group of people to bring the message to bear on our souls? I think so.
By reading the Bible in a group, we hear it together and remember that we are not alone in our sanctification. Preaching allows us to publicly proclaim truth and affirm it together. Discussions and conversations around the word give us time and space to think about applications and to encourage each other in obedience. Comfort from God’s word can be multiplied when it comes through a brother or sister of faith.
This summer as we preach through Paul’s letter to the Galatians, I am praying for something powerful to happen in you and me as individual followers of Christ. And I am praying for our congregation. God has placed us in our time and in our location for his purposes. His purposes are for us together.
God wants us, together, to grow in the gospel and to proclaim it to our city. He wants our congregation to be a place where Christ is exalted as having done all that is necessary for our salvation. He desires that we be a community of faith where people can enter and be led to faith in Christ. The Spirit wants to increase our joy in Christ and to launch us into the world, overflowing with the words of life to others.
So, join me as we prepare for a summer in Galatians. Here are four things you can do this weekend.
First, pray. Ask the Lord for renewal in your heart and in our congregation through the good news of God’s grace contained in Galatians. Pray for someone else at Grace.
Second, read. You can read Galatians aloud at an easy pace in twenty minutes. Ask someone to sit and read it with you.
Third, consider a way to take notes or journal through Galatians. Make it personal and prayerful as you interact with the message.
Fourth, share Galatians with someone. Invite someone to church. Meet with someone weekly to pray over what you are hearing.
May the Lord increase our faith, hope, and love as we spend the summer together in Galatians.
