Apr 05, 2019 Words of Grace – Your Weekend Prayers
Let’s make prayer a part of our weekend plans. And then, let’s gather on Sunday to pray as a congregation, praising God for his great grace and asking him for great things.
Pray for the message of James to work in our hearts and bear much fruit. The Holy Spirit is working in us. James is reading our hearts and leading us to Jesus. People are being convicted of the self-life and drawing near to God for cleansing and renewal. We are experiencing a new graciousness in our relationships with others. May we mature as a congregation, walk humbly with the Lord, and do the works of faith in love.
Pray for our focus on ministry during this building season at Grace. We break ground on the new building the week after Easter. We are in the process of deciding on the purchase of the house adjacent to our property. These buildings are tools for ministry. Pray for financial wisdom and provision. Pray for the classes, groups, and other gatherings that happen in our buildings each week. And, let’s pray that we will continue to reach into our city, to our neighbors, co-workers, and classmates, with the gospel of Christ.
Pray for the Good Friday and Easter services. Every Easter, worship attendance increases by about 30%. What an opportunity. At Grace, and all across our city, the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ will be proclaimed. Pray. May the Holy Spirit move in the hearts of people, bringing them to repentance and faith, making them followers of Jesus Christ. As you pray, plan to invite someone to church with you.
Pray for people. When people come to your mind this weekend, pray for them. Every person you think about has some kind of spiritual and physical need. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, lift that person to the Lord in prayer. You may want to contact them to see how they are, and to let them know you are praying.
Jesus taught us to pray like this, “Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” (Matthew 6:9-13, New Living Translation)
