2010 Prayer Emphasis
January 17 – 31, 2010
As you meditate on and memorize these verses, let them build your faith as you pray this month.
“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” –Matthew 26:41 (ESV)
Why We Pray
We believe the power of the Holy Spirit is required to accomplish the mission of the church. We believe prayer is the means by which we receive this power. We believe the church is called to strive together in prayer. (Romans 15:30)
Let Us Pray…
...in the name of Jesus. (John 14:13-14) Pray with the awareness and acknowledgement that as a Christian you come to prayer with Christ’s righteousness, not yours; that Christ’s prayers deserve to be heard; that you are praying by the command and with the authority of Christ; that prayer is for the glory of Christ; that Christ defeated Satan and sin at the cross.
...according to the will of God. (I John 5:14-15) The will of God is revealed in the Bible. Pray the prayers of the Bible. Pray for the specific truths and broad themes of the Bible related to God’s will for the church and the world.
...in faith. (James 1:5-8) Believe that God is working in you, the church, and the world; trust that God hears your prayers; believe that God is moving all things to the great end of revealing His glory; expect and look for God’s work in response to prayer; pray with dependency upon God.
